The Southern Mensurationists will hold their 2008 conference and
meetings at the Holiday Inn in St. Augustine Beach (Florida, USA)
from October 26th - 29th. St. Augustine Beach is located on
Anastasia Island just east of the historic city of St.
Augustine. St. Augustine is the oldest city in the United
States and boasts dozens of historic buildings, as well as the
Castillo de San Marcos National Monument.
October weather is usually quite mild, and daily temperatures
typically range between 79°F in the afternoons and 64°F at night.
Our conference site and time was chosen to correspond to off-peak
tourist season, and to allow us to obtain excellent hotel
rates. Moreover, this location is situated within 60 miles of
Jacksonville International Airport, and is close by to Rayonier and
University of Florida research sites.
Special Guests:
Dr. Boris Zeide
Our keynote speaker for the conference will be Boris Zeide, professor of forestry at the University of Arkansas (Monticello, AR). Dr. Zeide, who is an internationally recognized expert in the area of quantitative forest ecology, will give a talk on " Comparison of Reineke's and Nilson's Models of Natural Thinning ".
Dr. Oscar Garcia
We are honored to have Oscar Garcia, FBRC/West Fraser Endowed Chair in Forest Growth and Yield, in the Forestry Program at the University of Northern British Columbia as a special guest for the conference. Dr. Garcia will give a talk entitled "A simple and effective mortality model".
