Amr Abd-Elrahman joined the Geomatics program in April 2007. His major area of interest is Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) with emphasis on processing of multispectral and hyperspectral images to study vegetation biophysical and biogeochemical characteristics, classify submerged vegetation in turbid waters, and model water quality parameters. He uses GIS to quantify forest ecosystem services. One of his research interests is to develop ground-based low-cost hyperspectral sensing system that provides targeted contact with sensed objects and more control over imaging conditions as well as other environmental and temporal variables.
