Dr. Ohs joined the SFRC and IRREC faculty in July 2005. His research focuses on marine baitfish production, copepod production, reproduction of marine finfish, and nutrition of fish and crustacean species from larval to adult stages of development. He also has research interests in fish and crustacean physiology, endocrinology, larval nutrition, food science, and marketing.
Dr. Ohs works with current aquaculture producers to increase the efficiency of their operations and when appropriate, diversifying the number of organisms they culture. He provides information to individuals with interest in aquaculture who are evaluating the possibility of diversifying their farm operations to include production of various aquatic organisms. To increase awareness of aquaculture among youth, he led the development of a curriculum on aquaculture and the aquatic sciences for middle and high school teachers to implement in their classrooms. It is titled Teach Aquaculture.
