Paid 6-month internships in Tropical Forest Ecology
Two intern positions are available at the prestigious Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) in Panama. The interns will work directly with Dr. Evan Gora and in collaboration with a number of forest ecologists and ecophysiologists involved with ForestGEO. One intern will assist investigations into the physiological and electrical mechanisms by which lighting kills trees, and the other intern will work to evaluate the factors regulating the wood decomposition in the context of carbon cycling. The research projects will address important gaps in our understanding of tropical forest dynamics in the context of global change. These internships will prioritize professional development; interns will have opportunities to conduct independent research, develop quantitative skills, and coauthor peer-reviewed publications.
Applications including a cover letter, CV, and contact information for 2 references are due via email byFebruary 21st, 2020.
