Position: Extension Assistant

Description: 12-month Extension Assistant position assisting in the outreach and extension components necessary to implement the Comprehensive Strategy for Prescribed Fire in the Southeast United States. The successful candidate’s responsibilities include (1) assist with development of an implementation plan for the Prescribed Fire Strategy (2) participate in outreach events, develop outreach materials, and assist with social media, e-newsletter and blog, (3) assist with data collection, management and reporting, and (4) conduct other duties as assigned to ensure the success of the project. Other duties will include traveling (as much as 20% of the time), overnight at times, to conduct training workshops and/or to attend in-state and out-of-state meetings as assignments require.
A Bachelor of Science is required (Master’s is preferred) in Forestry, Fire Ecology, Natural Resources, or related field upon hiring. They must be able to communicate effectively in writing and orally with a wide range of audiences including the lay public.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
A preferred candidate for this position has a Master’s degree, training in Wildland Fire Management and Prescribed Fire, and demonstrated experience in conducting Extension and outreach programs. They have experience in data collection and management, familiar with survey platforms such as Survey Monkey and Qualtrics, skills in writing and public speaking, are proficient in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word, Publisher, and PowerPoint, experience in GIS and are familiar with or willing to learn social media and WordPress.
Valid State Driver’s License
