Job description: Candidate will be part of a field crew sampling sand dredging sites off the east coast of Florida. Sampling includes fish and invertebrate trawling, benthic grabs, water and plankton sampling, tagging fish, and deploying acoustic receivers. Technician will also be responsible for processing of fish samples and data input. This is a two year position, based on annual renewal.
Salary: $16.80/hour (~$35,000/year), eligible for state health insurance and supplemental state benefits.
Minimum requirements: Candidate must have a B.S., preferably in fisheries or a related biological science. Must be able to work in offshore waters (i.e., not prone to uncontrollable seasickness). Must be able to operate vessels up to 25 ft in offshore conditions (captain’s license not required), frequently lift 20 lbs (and infrequently 50 lbs), and be SCUBA certified with marine diving experience and be eligible to be certified for scientific diving (training will be provided). Flexibility in field work and travel is a must since the weather determines the field sampling schedule, which will include some night-time and weekend work.
