Maintenance of the Florida Garden encompasses the following: Florida Flatwoods, Window by the Pond, and Bog and Sandhill ecosystems. There will be occasional coordinated assistance required for cutting, spraying, assisting with prescribed fires, and brush removal in natural areas under the supervision of the Land Manager. Lead groups of visitors or school groups by walking through the natural areas and provide Florida native ecosystem interpretation. Assist in the support and training of volunteers, students and interns. Perform general gardening duties as required to maintain the integrity and beauty of the gardens. Oversee the proper operating procedures for the pond filter and wetland recirculating pump.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, fellow supervisors, direct supervisors, volunteers, and co-workers.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team effectively.
Ability to work with volunteer groups.
Ability to understand and interpret instruction to work effectively and efficiently with minimal supervision.
Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate maintenance and horticultural needs in a courteous and effective manner
Ability to plan, assign, supervise, and evaluate the work of volunteers.
Knowledge of garden plants and desire to learn Central Florida horticulture and the aesthetic ethic of the Gardens.
Ability to diagnose plant pests and diseases.
Previous experience in outdoor horticulture or natural lands management with the ability to operate various types of power equipment such as: lawnmower, chainsaw, front end-loader, tractors, and other similar machines.
Ability to visualize and conceptualize garden detail and aesthetics applying best garden practices for plant health and display.
Ability to lift at least 60 pounds.
Ability to perform strenuous physical labor outside in the Florida weather year round.
