Exotic Removal Job Opening at Lake Kissimmee State Park
Location: Lake Kissimmee State Park, Lake Wales, FL
Job description: 1 OPS exotic plant removal park ranger to work at Lake Kissimmee as well as at ADB Catfish Creek Preserve State Park. Work will include mechanical and herbicide treatment of exotic invasive plants. The position may also include participation with prescribed burning. Most work time will be spent outdoors in a variety of conditions. Housing is not provided for this position.
Qualifications: Although experience in exotic plant removal is preferred, it is not necessary, as training will be provided. Applicant should be interested in resource management issues and a career or further education in resource management. Knowledge in environmental and or biological sciences and in removal/treatment of exotic plants would be helpful. Ability to operate a chainsaw. Ability to lift 40 pounds. Ability to work in the outdoors. Ability to operate four wheel drive vehicles and ATVs. Ability to work alone, in adverse conditions. Knowledge of Florida flora, both native and exotic. Knowledge and skill in computer use and application as it relates to the collection and storage of scientific data. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to work well with others. Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license.
