The Marine Research Foundation based in Borneo has an intern position available for a young enthusiastic veterinarian who has some sea turtle knowledge and skills and is looking to get some experience overseas.
MRF has a three-way collaborative partnership with the Sabah Wildlife Department and Scuba Junkie – a dive resort on the island off Mabul, close to Sipadan and off the SE corner of Sabah.
The island received debilitated turtles from time to time and SJ have set up a pool and some tanks to help rehabilitate the animals, but have no trained veterinarians on staff (they are, after all, a dive resort…).
The Wildlife Department have vets, but they can only get to the island infrequently.
So we are seeking a vet who would like to be based out inn Mabul at Scuba Junkie, where all accommodation and meal costs will be covered, to work collaboratively with the vets at the Wildlife Department to treat sick and injured turtles. The vet would be living at a dive resort on a small island, roughly 1 hour form the mainland. Getting there requires a flight into Malaysia, a connection to Kota Kinabalu for paperwork processing, then onwards to Tawau, from there by bus to Semporna, and finally by speedboat to the island. Interested applicants would need to provide a copy of their veterinary degree duly translated into Malay and certified by the Malaysian embassy in their respective country. The Malaysian embassy should be able to provide a list of approved translators…
Interested applicants please contact Nicholas Pilcher at firstname.lastname@example.org. Short-listed candidates will be contacted for a Skype interview at a later date.
