The State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY-ESF), Ranger School at Wanakena, NY, invites applications for an academic-year, tenure-track position at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor (depending upon qualifications).
The selected individual will teach sophomore-level technical courses in land surveying for three Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) programs: land surveying technology, environmental and natural resources conservation, and forestry technology. In addition, this individual will teach specialized courses in computer aided drafting and design, survey law, and other courses as needed. All courses include both lecture and lab components, and most incorporate outdoor field exercises. The successful candidate will assist in teaching other courses as needed, provide academic advisement, student supervision and supervision of student organizations, participate in administrative and service activities, including faculty meetings and program assessment workshops, conduct annual advisory committee meetings, hold office hours at least one evening per week, conduct outdoor field exercises, develop excellence in teaching and scholarship, and work effectively as a member of a faculty team to continually update and improve the content and delivery of the Ranger School programs. We are particularly interested in candidates with a commitment to diversity and inclusiveness in research, teaching and service activities.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor degree with at least one academic degree in land surveying, or forest engineering, or closely related field; knowledge of CADD; at least two years of field-based work experience. Candidate must have a New York State driver’s license, or be able to acquire one.
Preferred Qualifications: Master degree; New York License in Land Surveying or, ability to achieve NYS licensure within one year); A.A.S. degree in land surveying or closely related technology, from an ABET-accredited program; teaching experience; comprehensive experience in CADD; experience with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) and associated technologies.
