When You First Arrive
Creating
and managing your Gatorlink account
Contact: Winnie Lante wdl@ufl.edu

Most everything you do at UF will be directly tied to your Gatorlink
account. As soon as you are employed at UF you will get an 8 digit
UF ID #. Once you get this # you can create your Gatorlink username
and password at : http://www.gatorlink.ufl.edu
Select your GL username carefully because it will become the first
part of your e-mail address. You probably do not want to have your
UF official e-mail go out as fuzzybunny@ufl.edu !
If you have a problem finding a username that has not already been
used, you can try this link first: http://itns.ifas.ufl.edu/checkgatorlink/
This will tell you if a name has already been used.
Usernames may be up to sixteen characters long and it are not case sensitive. Most commonly
users like to select their first initial followed by last name but
if you are John Smith you are out of luck.
Once you select your username you will also need to specify a password.
Your Gatorlink password is a security measure used to ensure that
only you can access your records and UF job-related data.
Your Gatorlink password must be at least eight characters long and
contain a combination of uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers,
and punctuation (three of those four elements). See Tips for Creating
a Strong Password to help you devise a strong password.
You are assigned one of five password policy levels (P1-P5) that determines
how often you must change your password, its length and other requirements.
To see your policy level, sign on to myUFL,
click My Account, then Change My Password. The first screen will display
your policy level. You can also view the specifics of the Gatorlink
Password Policy.
Your University of Florida Identification
Number
If you are employed by the University of Florida, you should already
have a University of Florida Identification number (UFID). This number
is a substitute for your social security number. This was done to
protect identity theft and your privacy. UF is committed to protecting
your privacy. Your UFID number is used in place of your social security
number in virtually all transactions conducted with the University.
Visit the UFID web site (http://www.it.ufl.edu/ufid/)
for more details.
Your UFID number may already exist, but you may not be aware of
it. If you do not know your UFID or need to check that one has been
assigned, go to What’s my UFID (http://www.it.ufl.edu/ufid/)
and enter your social security number and birthday.
- Another source for
your UFID is your Gator 1 picture ID. If you obtained a new card
within the last year, it should have your UFID printed above the
bar code. Additional information can be obtained at the Gator
1 web site http://www.bsd.ufl.edu/IdCard/Gator1C_info.asp
