This is an excellent opportunity for a self-motivated, well-organized, creative individual to provide program support to Florida State Parks in District 2 in the areas of training, interpretative services, volunteer and Friends group programs and more. The District is comprised of 44 state parks throughout North Florida from Fernandina Beach to Homosassa Springs with over 200 full-time employees and OPS staff. The office is located at Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park’s La Chua Trail entrance. Insurance benefits are available for this position.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Training: Track and report park staff training and professional development using an online system. Develop, coordinate and assist with training and workshops on various topics both in-person and via technology for park staff, volunteers and Citizen Support Organizations (CSOs also known as Friends groups).
Natural & Cultural Resource Interpretation: Write, edit and review interpretive information including programs, non-personal media (exhibits, kiosks, wayside graphics), print publications and online content (web/social/e-news). Participate in interpretive planning, project management and training. Promote and evaluate interpretive programs, special events and recreational skills opportunities.
Park Program Support: Provide technical assistance for online tools and applications: Maestro (training tracking), VSys (volunteer management system), park websites and others. Assist with the support of volunteer and CSO programs – recruitment, requirements and recognition. Research training, interpretation, volunteer program and non-profit best management practices to provide recommendations, create process improvements and develop training tools/resources. Perform travel and other duties as assigned, including answering District phones and providing high quality customer service to internal/external customers.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR THE POSITION: Use various computer and mobile applications; effectively speak in public; plan, coordinate and conduct meetings, workshops and trainings; design, edit and produce a variety of program resources such as interpretive materials, presentations and reports; research topics, write copy and create communications in various forms; work both independently and with a team; utilize problem solving techniques and apply critical thinking skills; understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures; travel, work the occasional long day and Saturday; and maintain a valid driver’s license.
