Project “Conservation of Ancient Forests and Intact Watersheds in Patagonia” is looking for a field assistant for intensive work during two months in Chilean Patagonia (between 15th of January 2019 to end of March 2019). https://www.mdpi.com/1999-4907/9/7/385
Work will consist on field validation of an existing map of intact forested watersheds in Chilean Patagonia, from 41-56°S. A typical day will be walking 8-12km along difficult terrain, editing the map with a Trimble JUNO GPS and sometimes camping between 1-3 nights in the area of validation, mostly in very isolated places. The field work will be always performed at least in pairs.

– Good health condition and fitness are very important, and a good spirit for exploring and sometimes facing problems. Health insurance for the trip is recommended.
– The applicant will have to pay its own airfare to Coyhaique, Chile, but will be provided with per diem covering costs of sleeping and food. No salary is involved, but it is a unique opportunity to visit some of the intact landscapes from Patagonia, from coastal islands and fiords to inland dense evergreen forests, and open temperate deciduous forests.
– Applicants with a degree of biology, forestry or conservation/management of natural resources, are very welcome to apply.
