Sustaining and Enhancing Ecosystem Productivity through Ecological Research (SEEPER)
We examine production ecology of natural forests, planted forests and agroforests in order to gain an understanding of the ecological basis for sustainable production. Collaborators include private land owners and forest products companies. SEPER over the past 10 years has significantly improved our understanding of fertilization practices for short rotation hardwood forests, shortening the grass stage in longleaf pine, and interspecific interactions in mixed species forests and agroforests.
