Ecosystem Restoration using SIlvicultural Tools (ERST)
In an attempt to restore both the understory and overstory of the longleaf pine ecosystem and upland hardwood forests, we are investigating the use of silvicultural tools such as prescribed burning, thinning, regeneration cuttings, planting, fertilization, and weed control on a variety of sites in collaboration with state agencies and private land owners. We also attempt to develop tools for restoration monitoring and evaluation. We have completed a number of projects during the past 10 years, but several long-term projects are still ongoing.
