Ecological Impacts of Exotic Invaders (EI2)

EI2 is a long-term project that started in 1999 in collaboration with state agencies, forest products companies, and private land owners.  We use Imperata cylindrica (Cogongrass) as a model invasive plant to investigate the ecological impacts on southern forest ecosystems.  We also investigate management strategies to control the establishment and spread of this alien invader.  I. cylindrica infests over 1.5 million acres in the South and is the World’s worst weed species of forest ecosystems.  It occupies an estimated 500,000 acres in Florida alone.  Please visit the publication section or the individual project sites for more information.
