Since joining the SFRC faculty in 2005 I have been involved in teaching and Extension.  I currently teach two undergraduate courses, Dendrology and Forest Plants as well as Forest Conservation & People.  Previously, I taught: Forest Ecology, Natural Resource Sampling, Fire Ecology & Management, Integrated Management and Ecosystems of the Southeast.  Currently, I am the SFRC Undergraduate Coordinator and work closely with our faculty and staff to ensure we provide a high quality degree in all of our programs: Forest Resources & Conservation, Natural Resource Conservation, Geomatics, and our new Marine Science Program.
As an Extension Specialist I work statewide and on forestry issues that cross the wildland - urban continuum.  Two Extension programs that I help coordinate are the Florida Stewardship Program and The Tampa Bay Watershed Forest Working Group.

The Florida Stewardship Program – This program provides educational programing to private forest landowners statewide.  Our programs are designed to provide the tools and knowledge to our clients so that they can sustainably manage their lands for a wide range of objectives: timber, wildlife habitat, ecosystem services, and aesthetics.  We also publish the quarterly newsletter, Florida Land Steward.

The Tampa Bay Watershed Forest Working Group – This group was formed in 2006 to establish and foster a collaborative that would allow the people, agencies and organizations interested in trees, woodlands and forests within the bay watershed to work together to solve common problems, resolve conflicts and build partnerships in order to move our watershed toward a more sustainable direction. While this program is focused on technology transfer and capacity building in the Tampa Bay area it is also engaged in long-term research projects about how urbanization is changing forest structure, composition and the ecosystem services they provide.

In addition to teaching and Extension, I am the Forest Manager for the Austin Cary Memorial Forest. This 2,080 acre forest is managed by the School of Forest Resources and Conservation to support the Teaching, Research and Extension missions of the SFRC and wider University of Florida community.  In 2011, our forest management team initiated and full inventory of the forest to establish a new baseline and provide data for updating a current management plan.
