Position summary: The Department of Forest Ecosystems and Society invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term Faculty Research Assistant position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Department Head.
This position assists scientists from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service, Pacific Northwest (PNW) Research Station and Oregon State University Department of Forest Ecosystems and Society in conducting field- and laboratory-based research in fire ecology, plant ecology, and forest management in the interior Pacific Northwest. The incumbent analyzes data; prepares figures, tables, and reports for publication; and contributes to grant proposals, research study plans, and field crew training.
The position is funded for an initial period of 7-8 months, but may be extended depending on availability of funding and satisfactory performance.
Minimum qualifications: Master of Science (MS) degree (or higher) in Biology, Ecology, Forestry, Environmental Science, or a closely related field that provides knowledge of the theory, methods, and practice of ecological data analysis.
Demonstrated high level of proficiency in data management and analysis of ecological data using appropriate statistical analyses (e.g., generalized linear models, linear mixed models, multivariate community analysis).
Demonstrated proficiency in one or more of the following computer software packages common to the analysis of biological and ecological data: R, SAS/STAT, or PC-ORD.
Proficient in the use of personal computers, Microsoft Windows, and Microsoft Office programs (Word and Excel).
Demonstrated professional-level oral and written communication skills.
