|Monitor in-woods production supply chain operations and other functions associated with the management of biomass fuel supply for Gainesville Regional Utility’s Deerhaven Renewable Generating Station, the largest biomass energy facility in the US.
1. Maintain harvest tract database with input from biomass fuel producers and landowners; inspect harvested tracts to evaluate fuel producer compliance with Florida Silviculture BMPs; oversee and ensure compliance with facility’s established sustainability standards for forest-sourced biomass; coordinate with GRU forester regarding inspection, compliance and recordkeeping; coordinate periodic third-party audits.
2. Oversee and ensure compliance with facility’s Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) chain of custody and controlled wood certifications.
3. Conduct other field forestry or GIS tasks as needed.
4. Perform on-site activities related to fuel receiving as needed.
This is an entry-level position for a forestry graduate or other life science graduate. Position may be flexible to allow for candidate to attend classes while working towards a degree.
Forestry graduates will be expected to achieve SAF Candidate Certified Forester (CF) credential, developing their professional network via attendance at regional events while completing the required CFEs to maintain their credential.
Job requires some computer data input skills, general knowledge of forestry management practices, and the ability to communicate with a wide range of people including forestry professionals, landowners, FL Forest Service and other agency personnel, truckers, loggers, and utility personnel. Basic mapping skills using ArcGIS are necessary, but some training can be provided to accomplish required competency.
|WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS|
