Position: Assistant Professor of Quantitative Fisheries Science

Background: The Department of Applied Ecology (https://appliedecology.cals.ncsu.edu) at North Carolina State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Quantitative Fisheries Science at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful applicant will develop a vigorous, extramurally-funded research program using accepted and innovative ecological and stock assessment models to aid in fisheries monitoring, assessment, and sustainable management. Areas of specialty can include stock assessment, population dynamics, ecosystem-based fisheries modeling, mathematics, and/or statistics.
This position will be located at the NCSU Center for Marine Sciences and Technology (https://cmast.ncsu.edu), a state-of-the-art facility housing researchers from the NCSU College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, College of Sciences and College of Veterinary Medicine and located on the shoreline of picturesque Bogue Sound in Morehead City, NC. The position provides a unique opportunity to participate in a nationallyranked fisheries program at NC State University and to collaborate with faculty at other institutes and agencies including the Duke Marine Laboratory, the UNC Institute of Marine Sciences, the NC Division of Marine Fisheries, and NOAA Fisheries – all located in or around Morehead City – on diverse fisheries issues that are important to the North Carolina, US, and global economies.
At the departmental level, NCSU’s Department of Applied Ecology offers opportunities to collaborate with scientists at the NC Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit (https://appliedecology.cals.ncsu.edu/nccoopunit), Southeast Climate Science Center (https://globalchange.ncsu.edu/secsc), NCSU Center for Applied Aquatic Ecology (https://caae.cals.ncsu.edu), Biomathematics program (http://bma.math.ncsu.edu), and with faculty in the Fisheries, Wildlife, and Conservation Biology program.
Duties: Primary responsibilities of the position will be focused on research and extension with some teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Post-doctoral or management agency experiences are preferred.
