Oregon Sea Grant (OSG) and Oregon State University Extension Service (OSUES) invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term, Assistant Professor of Practice: Coastal Fisheries & Marine Resources Community Educator position.
The position will be serving the Oregon Coastal Region with specific emphasis on Lincoln County and the mid-coast region. The position will be based in Newport, Oregon. This is a ranked position with promotional opportunities; the individual hired will need to determine an academic home within one year of start date. The individual hired will also be expected to bring in 25% of their salary in future years.
This position will work with commercial fishing fleets, scientists, management agency staff, fishing support businesses, other marine resources professionals, and the public. This work includes the facilitation, development, execution, coordination, and evaluation of education and research projects related to commercial fisheries and marine resources. This position requires an interest in marine resource science and management and will work with stakeholders to understand their needs and develop solutions through consultation and cooperation, serving as a community educator and liaison between various audiences. Experience working directly with commercial fishermen and other marine industries would be extremely helpful, as would the demonstrated ability to create and maintain respected relationships through the engagement of diverse audiences. Active and effective communication and cooperation with university, community, and industry stakeholders are critical to the success of this position.
