 Identifying Characteristics
Size/Form:
Black Needle Rush is grass-like perennial growing to 5' in height.
Leaves:
Leaf blades are stem-like, long, stiff, round, with very sharp points. Grayish-green to blackish hues.
Fruit:
Dark brown and shiny seed capsules. Capsules are three-sided and found in clusters of 2-6.
Flowers:
Inflorescence stiffish, erect branches, yellow-green flowers at the tips of branches and branchlets.
Habitat:
Salt tolerant. Found in coastal salt and brackish tidal marshes
